However, itвЂ™s there that AlvinвЂ™s curiosity with regards to a passing kite gets the better of him and all seven of them wind up on a seemingly deserted volcanic island with no obvious means of rescue. Now intertwined with the Chipettes, our heroesвЂ™ family vacation goes awry when their antics aboard a cruise ship result in Dave first having to lay down the law, then confine them to the upper-level shuffleboard court. Likely to polarise audiences across generations, Chipwrecked puts the 'low' in 'trilogy'. Sure the Chipmunks have always kept in tune with contemporary musical trends, but this is a different kind of racy than Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out For A Hero.

And if parents don't find that disturbing enough, there's Alvin's propensity for quoting lines from 1970s adult-orientated films like Taxi Driver and Apocalypse Now and song choices that include Katy Perry's Hot 'N Cold, Pink's So What and Beyonce's Single Ladies. Product placement is rife with cheese-flavoured corn snacks, Nintendo products and an Animal Planet show all given airtime. Together, theyвЂ™ll have to take on bullies, homework and chipmunk rivals in the former of sisterly singing triumvirate Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor вЂ“ better known as The Chipettes (voiced almost unrecognisably by Christina Applegate, Anna Faris and Amy Poehler).Д¬learly inspired by the likes of Glee, Fame and High School Musical, this Chipmunks-go-to-high-school 'squeakquel' provides enough chuckles and action to just squeak by.
